The standard "Grammar Check" in Microsoft word does NOT check for all kinds of grammatical errors. It checks for basic grammar errors, but it does not check for "academic writing style" errors. However, if you simply change a few simple settings, it will automatically find many more kinds of errors and offer suggestions.
How to change the Settings in Microsoft Word:
The instructions may be different if you are running an older version, but here's how I did it on my computer:
File > Options > Proofing > When correcting spelling and grammar in Word > Writing Style > Set to [Grammar & Style]
Another good way is to use the "Help" feature: simply type "Writing Style" and follow the directions!
