Ron Woodroof: Real Hero

In the 2013, the film Dallas Buyers Club was released. This film is based on real person Ron Woodroof Who was an AIDS patient and established Dallas Buyers Club for helping people. Due to Ron Woodroof’s extraordinary contribution, this film demonstrated the best and also the hardest time of his life, which has become the remarkable memory to honor him and to remind of him again. How could a person be worth to mention after he died, only as a hero in most of the cases. As Polster saying, heroism has strong personal mental and physical power, respect for human beings, and inventive thought of fighting for human rights. Ron Woodroof with these features is an incredible hero.

Destroying the death sentence to live longer is the one of the reasons why he is a hero. Ron Woodroof was destined to live only six months after diagnosed as having AIDS. However, it wasn’t becoming true in his life. With strong courage, not only having powerful body defense, but also having no fear of death is the key to help him succeed in fighting against AIDS. In other word, he was brave enough to ignore the doctor’s forecast and did what he needed to do. Without complaining his doomed life, he was going to save himself. By interviewing Ron Woodroof, Romano (2013) described that Ron Woodroof said he was his own physician. It’s hard to believe that the person who was dying soon had clearly aim and goal to raise the life up and did the most people cannot do. So with his own cure, he didn’t die until six years later. Under the extreme pressure and fear of death, he had fought for his destiny with all the courage from both his mental and physical determination, which ordinary people generally don’t have strong enough to take difficulty down.

When life is tough and almost kill him, Ron Woodroof decided to do even more to challenge himself and to help more and more people who confront bad situations. As a hero, establishing the Dallas Buyers Club is the Symbol of his life and also is the best reason to explain why he is a hero. When life was going to take all of he owned, he was an unbelievable person to do even more to help more and more people who had the same disease. Like most of hero did, he was finding drugs to help his club members from everywhere in the world with even thinking about his own life. Nobody knew that he was going to die at anytime from anywhere and he was in danger. Even though, he did that without hesitation. Polster (2013) mentioned that the action that people would support is heroic is risking one’s life to save another. What he did was exactly hero would do and do it with directly. The Dallas Buyers Club was well known among the AIDS world. He was the leader also as a same patient. Action is hero’s the best explanation. So even if Ron Woodroof only had countable days left, the Dallas Buyers Club that he created was still birthed in order to save lives.

 Hero is fighting for real world and thinks beyond real world Dallas Buyers Clubs was succeeded in the AIDS world, however, Ron Woodroof even went further in his life to pursue the human rights belongs to the people who had to ask for their own free treatment. He wanted to have his right to choose drugs, even its unapproved by the government. This is his right to seize the opportunity to find the antidote even if he could find at all. In Romano’s article (2013), Ron Woodroof had yelled to the government and raged plight of his unfair life into desperation. Fortunately, he had responded and won the battle in the end. Finally, he was allowed to use the drugs as personal treatment in the future. Although, it was a temporary victory for him, it would be a huge progress for the society. So the hero is the person who not only fights for his present difficulty, but also fights for future life.

When Dallas Buyers Club won several Oscar Award, it is an honor for filmmaker and all the actors and actress. The most important thing is that it reminds people to seek what behinds the Dallas Buyers Club and Ron Woodroof, the hero, brought an impression for people to go further.
